Summary- Jussi and Jyrki share a special summer night together.


"Look Jyrki, it`s two eyes, see? They`re perfectly shaped too!” Jussi said, grinning through the darkness at Jyrki as he pointed up at the night sky. Jyrki looked where Jussi was pointing, but all that he saw were a bunch of stars.

“Jussi, for the thousandth time, I just see stars,” Jyrki grumbled. Jussi sighed and scooted closer to Jyrki on the hood of the old car.

“That`s because you`re not looking hard enough,” Jussi insisted, brushing his spiky black hair out of his eyes and grabbing Jyrki`s hand, spreading out his pointer finger and raising his arm to the sky.

“Look, that star there and that one to its left look like eyes,” Jussi said, moving Jyrki`s arm to point at the stars.

“I think I see it but I don`t know what all of the fuss is about,” Jyrki grumbled. Jussi sighed and fell silent, choosing to gaze at Jyrki instead of at the stars.

Jyrki sighed and moved closer to Jussi.

“I guess I understand,” Jyrki said finally.

“Understand what?” Jussi asked, wiping the sweat from his brow with his bare arm. It was a hot summer night, and both men were very sweaty.

“The whole star thing. I guess it`s nice to know that there`s something in this life that will never change,” Jyrki said.

“But the night sky is always changing. Stars die and change by the seasons,” Jussi said, watching Jyrki intently.

“Yes, but the sky is still always there,” Jyrki said. Jussi nodded and the two fell back into a comfortable silence.

Jussi looked at Jyrki`s silky black hair and his favorite shirt, the one that said the name of their band in what looked like ancient writing. Jussi wondered if Jyrki would ever change or die.

“What if our lives change? What if the band breaks up or we stop being friends?” Jussi asked.

“We`ll always be friends,” Jyrki said firmly, and Jussi smiled. If Jyrki spoke the words so surely then they must be true.

“Look at that star,” Jyrki said, breaking through Jussi`s thoughts as he pointed up at sky. Jussi fought the urge to laugh.

“Which one?” he asked. Jyrki grabbed Jussi`s hand and raised it to the sky.

“That one. The bright one,” Jyrki said.

“I think that`s a planet,” Jussi said.

“I don`t care what it is. See how bright it is?” Jyrki asked, pointing to a star that was brighter than the rest.

“Yea,” Jussi said, wondering where Jyrki was going with this.

“That`ll be our star,” Jyrki said, and Jussi smiled.

“It`s beautiful,” Jussi said.

“Yes, it is,” Jyrki said.

The two sat in silence, both of them watching the star.

“You know, I think I know the difference between us,” Jyrki said, breaking the silence.

“Which is?” Jussi asked, turning his head to look at Jyrki.

“You see things that aren`t there, while I, on the other hand, see the things that are,” Jyrki said.

“So you see the truth…” Jussi began.

“And you see the dreams,” Jyrki finished for him with a soft smile.

The two men watched each other with fond smiles on their faces before Jyrki rested his hand meaningfully on Jussi`s shoulder, looking deeply into his blue eyes.

“I`m going to bed. Are you coming?” Jyrki asked.

“You go, I`ll come in and say goodnight in a minute,” Jussi answered, smirking.

“Ok but hurry up or I`ll be asleep,” Jyrki said, grinning and jumping off of the car and running back to the hotel.

Jussi grinned. Jyrki was right. Some things never changed,

Before he went to bed, there was one last thing that he had to do. Bringing two fingers to his lips, he kissed them and raised them toward his and Jyrki`s star.

“Don`t ever die,” Jussi murmured. Then he smiled and jumped off of the car to go back to the hotel. He`d come back tomorrow night with Jyrki. The star would still be there.
